Pahalgam is situated in the western part of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Set at 2130 m above sea level, surrounded by the great Himalayas, it is positioned on the banks of the Liddar River. The alpine weather conditions create pleasant and mild weather conditions in summers from April to June, while winters from November to February are cold and experience heavy snowfall. The rainy seasons of July and August see a huge entourage of pilgrims who come here to visit the holy cave of Amarnath, the abode of Lord Shiva, as Pahalgam is the starting point of the famous Amarnath Yatra.
Pahalgam is a hill station most sought by the travelers seeking relaxation and leisure. The valley offers breathtaking panoramic views of the beautiful Himalayan Ranges
Pahalgam is a famous shopping place for woolen products. It forms a part of the region in Asia where Saffron is growing. Pahalgam valley is perfectly suitable for adventurous activities like golf, horse riding, trekking and many water sports. The unexplored undulating hilly terrains and the plain valley regions are equally eye catching.



How To Reach

By Air
Srinagar is the nearest airport at a distance of 95 km.
By Train
The nearest major railhead is at Srinagar, which is 90 km away. One can reach Pahalgam from railway station by taxis or buses.
By Bus
Pahlagam is connected by Jammu and Kashmir state owned road transport corporation buses. Pahalgam is well connected to Srinagar (95 km, Rs. 50) by buses. Special luxurious buses will also be available from Jammu and Srinagar to Pahalgam.


Climate

The summer maximum temperature rarely goes above 25 degrees celsius. Being located at a height of 7200 feet above sea level, the temperature can fall to -10 degrees in winter.



Food & Cuisine

Pahalgam, undoubtedly, offers you a wide array of restaurants serving Kashmiri specialties. Aromatic spices are the identity of Kashmiri food. Besides, these eating joints also serve a variety of Punjabi, Gujarati and Chinese dishes.

Major Attractions

River Liddar has a number of picnic spots around it. Spend  some leisurely moments by the river bank.
Pahalgam is a part of Asia's only saffron growing area. While visiting Pahalgam, you can see the saffron plants in full bloom in the month of November.
It is an ideal place for adventure enthusiasts too. People love to go  angling, trout fishing, horse riding, golf, snow skiing and trekking here.
Pahalgam is the starting point of the Amarnath yatra, a pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath (abode of Lord Shiva) . During the months of July/August, thousands of pilgrims pass through Pahalgam to reach the holy cave of Amarnath.
